About Pushkar City

History of Pushkar Fair

According to the legends, when Lord Brahma who is one of the supreme power out of the three gods came to know that a demon vajranash was killing the people on the earth, he intoned a mantra on a lotus flower and killed the demon. During the process the flower fell on the three places Jyaistha, Madhya, Kanistha Pushkar. After this Lord Brahma decided to perform yagna at pushkar to save all the three places from demon.

History of Pushkar Fair During the hawan Brahma’s wife Saraswati was needed to offer aahuti but she was not there at that time, so the Lord Brahma married a gujjar girl to complete the hawan. When Goddess Saraswati came to know about it she cursed Brahma saying that he would only be worshipped in Pushkar and nowhere else in the world. Since that day the priests of the Brahma temple ( Pushkar ) are the Gujjar family
